While Steve’s Master’s education was at a seminary, he desires to meet each client where they are. Spiritual or religous integration is completely up to the client. Steve’s therapuetic approach is welcoming of those experienceing faith transitions, religious deconstruction, and/or spiritual unceratinty.

Approach to Therapy

Steve focuses on promoting deeply rooted, lasting change by taking a holistic perspective. Since each client has a unique story, his theoretical approach is shaped from an integrative model. He incorporates evidence based psychological theory with neurological research and a physiological knowledge base. He seeks to personalize services to blend the individual strengths unique to each client with the theory and research specific to the reasons that brings that client to seek services. Steve takes into consideration that we are social creatures, and that minority stress, adverse childhood events and the culture of our greater community all impact us.

Steve blends a variety of research based techniques, often pulling from Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, Systems, Existential, Experiential, and Somatic Models. This perspective stresses the importance of understanding the personal meaning created throughout each of our lives. Often this meaning is embedded in unconscious, symbolic and socialized beliefs and behaviors that can serve as forces in our lives that often we “can't explain” or we “just feel.”

Clients

Steve views each client as a unique dynamic individual and takes time to establish a personalized relationship that allows for deep understanding of both the person as well as the environment in which they are navigating. His goal is to focus on helping to overcome obstacles without becoming consumed with diagnostic labels.
